What is involved ? What do you do ? ... ?
First of all we try to pre-qualify clients by phone consultation and written material, so that clients coming for assessment have a good probability of being helped .
Session 1 – Assessment for Irlen Syndrome – approx 1 hour
¨ At the first session we will ask a number of questions, to find out whether the client has the Irlen Syndrome. We will test to discover the client’s main symptoms. Then we will try various acetates to see which is the most helpful. The client can then try the preferred acetate for a month or so, after which a second session can be arranged. There is no pressure to proceed further.
¨ In 82% of cases the Irlen Syndrome will also be seen in a parent or grandparent, so if either parent has had similar concerns, it is best for that parent to attend, as we can probably find an acetate that would help this parent at the same time.
Session 2 – If at the end of the first hour the client wishes to go ahead with the provision of Irlen Tinted Lenses , either on the same day, or at a a later time, this takes a further 2 hours, sometimes on the same day, and sometimes on another day.

What would my optometrist think about this ?
I have visited all the optometrists in Lithgow, Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo (with the exception of one who is never available) and I have not found any optometrist who says he/she is against Helen Irlen’s work, Most of them have sent me referrals.
